Rockefeller Global Family Office Bolsters New York Presence

The addition of the team continues a run of expansion developments at the family office business of Rockefeller Capital Management.

Rockefeller Family Office, the wealth management arm of New York-based Rockefeller Capital Management, has announced the addition of Oryx Legacy Partners, a six-person team led by New York private wealth advisors Angela Mwanza and Jordan Powell.

Mwanza, a managing director and private advisor, has over 23 years of experience advising ultra-high net worth families on sophisticated strategies at the intersection of family, finance, and philanthropy, the firm said in a statement. Her investment strategies focus on managing risk, liquidity and, where appropriate, socially responsible and impact investments. She is joining from UBS where she spent 15 years as a private wealth advisor and one of a few family office consultants, the firm continued.

Prior to that, she was a private banker at Lehman Brothers Private Investment Management, and Fleet Private Client Services after starting her financial services career at JP Morgan Private Bank (Morgan Guaranty Trust), the firm said.

Mwanza also serves on the board of directors of Jumia, a for profit e-commerce platform operating in Africa, and on the board of directors of Summit Junto. She is the chair of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business College Leadership Council and is on the board of directors of Grace Farms Foundation, as well as Project Drawdown which focuses on climate solutions. Mwanza also serves on Pharrell’s YELLOW Advisory Council, the firm continued.

Powell brings over 17 years of experience in financial services. Prior to Rockefeller, he joined UBS Private Wealth Management from BNP Paribas where he was a vice president in global equities, commodities and derivatives, the firm said.

Mwanza and Powell are joined by private advisor Mimi Kuo-Chin Shih. Shih has nine years of experience in the industry, working at UBS Private Wealth Management and CIBC Wood Gundy in Vancouver, Canada, where she advised high net worth individuals on tax advantaged investing, non-resident investing, and structured products.

“Angela and her team are widely recognized as being among the industry’s leading purpose-driven wealth management professionals, and we are pleased to welcome them to Rockefeller,” Christopher Dupuy, co-head of Rockefeller Global Family Office, said.

Oryx Legacy Partners also includes Wenyi “Jason” Wang, CFA, vice president and wealth manager; Przemyslaw “Shem” Filipek, associate vice president and wealth manager; and Allissa Purkey, senior client associate.

The move follows a raft of expansion developments at Rockefeller Global Family Office, the most recent being the addition of Gorin Ressel Wealth Partners to its Midwest division. In March, the family office also added Marchetti Porter Wealth Partners of San Francisco, California, to its Pacific Northwest division. See more here.
