Philadelphia-based Janney Montgomery Scott has appointed Jeff Smith as senior vice president and branch manager of its Washington, DC, office - a role in which he will lead the firm’s expansion in the Capital Region.

Smith has over 20 years of industry experience and will report to James Dornan, regional manager. He started his career in the financial services industry in 1990 as a financial advisor, moving to Legg Mason in 2004 as director of sales for the central division.

Jerry Lombard, president of the firm’s private client group, said the DC metro area is a “logical expansion point for Janney right now.”

In other moves, in July the firm brought in Christopher Willett - a producer with over $200 million in client assets - as executive vice president of investments in its Atlanta, GA, branch.

Janney Montgomery Scott is an independently-operated subsidiary of The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company and a New York Stock Exchange member firm.
